Overview You are required to critically reflect on the guest industry speakers presentation that will outline challenging issues in leadership. Then, you will use that knowledge to select a person whom you consider to be a successful and globally effective leader and analyse their leadership traits, behaviours, use of power, ethical practices and cross-cultural influence. The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on the guest industry speakers experience enabling you to identify leadership qualities that can be evaluated for a leader of your choice. This assessment will challenge you to research and apply leadership concepts, models and theories that are covered in this course. Learning Outcomes The targeted Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) for this assessment are: CLO1: Critically analyse and apply leadership theories and models to various organizational situations while researching current leadership challenges in contemporary workplace settings. CLO2: Discuss and apply global leadership competencies by focusing on people, leveraging business knowledge, and developing cultural and emotional intelligence, while emphasizing ethical and socially responsible leadership practices. The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on the guest industry speakers experience enabling you to identify leadership qualities that can be evaluated for a leader of your choice. Assessment details In this assessment, you will critically reflect on the guest industry speakers experience, synthesise your reflection, and apply it to the leadership qualities of your chosen leader. You are required to research and apply leadership theories, models and concepts that you have learnt in this course. By critically reflecting, analysing and applying leadership theories and models in this assessment, you will build your leadership knowledge and understanding. This assessment has three stages: Stage 1: Listen to the industry dialogue on global leadership practices (given below). You will need to critically reflect on the qualities needed to be an effective leader. Stage 2: Using the knowledge gained from your reflection, select a person whom you consider to be a successful and effective global leader. This person could be any of the following: Someone who is a Public Figure / OR Global Leader OR Someone you have worked with or someone you have interacted with in person Stage 3: Research and identify your chosen persons leadership traits, behaviours and styles. Then answer the following questions: Q1: How does the chosen leader demonstrate the use of power and influence to lead effectively? Q2: In what ways does the chosen leader demonstrate principles of fairness and transparency, apply cultural sensitivity, create equitable opportunities, prioritize others needs, and foster an empowering and respectful environment? Q3: How does the chosen leader’s approach impact the overall effectiveness of the firm? EUROPEAN INDUSTRY DIALOGUE: Global Industry Mindsets on Contemporary Leadership Profile of the Speaker: Mr Andrew Muirhead Andrew Muirhead is Vice President OEM & Engineering Services and Commercial Head of the Product Segment Original Equipment and Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik AG in Hamburg, Germany. He holds responsibility for all product development and manufacturing activities as well as all specialist Engineering services within the company. He has been involved in Aviation since 1990, when he was an intern at Lufthansa whilst studying Electronics Engineering at RMIT University and German at the University of Melbourne. After a three-year stint in the consulting world, he returned to Lufthansa Technik in 1996 in various engineering roles before going on to found a startup within the Lufthansa Technik Organisation to create innovative products and services for the airframe and the cabin. This startup went on to become an integral part of one of the five Product Segments in the company, which he leads today. He was instrumental in setting up the innovation ecosystem in Lufthansa Technik and the wider Lufthansa Group context and is a member of the Innovation Fund Board for the Lufthansa Group of companies. Besides various Advisory Board mandates, Andrew has been involved in external startup development and support. He has an MBA from the Technical University of Munich and holds over 20 patents in various aerospace applications.
