There are many events that have set the groundwork to what education is today (Moore & Diehl, 2018). Understanding how having social presence, cognitive presence, and a teaching presence can create a higher learning experience in many different learning environments in both K-12 and higher education (Moore & Diehl, 2018). When distance learning is more effective than a traditional classroom it is important to understand it is not the technology, but the course design, time on task, and student engagement that create the effective learning experience (Nilson & Goodson, 2018).

For this assignment you will write a 36-page paper in current APA format discussing how the historical events, theoretical foundations, and Twenty-Five Key Principles of Learning from Cognitive Science apply to educational technology and online learning. Explain how the Community of Inquiry Theoretical Framework discussed by Moore & Diehl (2018) can impact educational technology and online learning. This section of the paper must be 12 pages, and you must cite at least 2 references.

Select and explain one of the Twenty-Five Principles of Learning from Cognitive Science discussed by Nilson & Goodson (2018) and explain how you can apply the principle to educational technology and online learning. You will provide an example of how your chosen principle can be applied in distance education, and you will need to provide rationale on why you believe your example would create a more effective experience in a distance learning environment. This section will need to be 1-2 pages. You will want to cite at least 2 current (within 5 years) scholarly, peer-reviewed references within this section.
