For this assignment, you are to conduct scholarly research on an assigned cultural group. (See below for which group you have been assigned to.) You will examine specific health conditions as well as beliefs about health for the group. Include relevant data and statistics as needed. You must use a minimum of four scholarly sources for this assignment. One of those sources must be your textbook, Multicultural Health (Ritter & Graham, 2023).

This assignment consists of seven sections:

1. Introduction (one paragraph)
2. Include the population you are addressing and subpopulations if applicable
3. The racial/ethnic breakdown of the population in the U. S.
4. Purpose statement
5. Pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing
6. Cultural practices and cultural norms associated with pregnancy, birth, and child-rearing (not child-bearing)
7. Cultural traditions
8. Provide relevant (current) statistics for infant and maternal morbidity/mortality data and how it affects the overall health of the population
9. Nutrition and exercise
10. Describe the dietary habits, forbidden foods, food related rituals that are specific to the culture
11. List typical foods served in this culture
12. Cultural beliefs and practices about exercising or physical activity
13. Mental health
14. Common stigmas about mental health
15. Depression and suicide prevalence and incidence
16. Common cultural practices used to treat mental health
17. Death and dying
18. Cultural practices and norms associated with death and dying
19. Cultural traditions
20. The role of spirituality or religion in death and dying practices
21. Common health problems
22. Identify 2 common health problems and risk factors
23. Include incidence and prevalence of the health problem as it relates to the population
24. Address the role that cultural practices/traditions play in the two common health problems
25. Conclusion (one paragraph)
26. Summarize the main points of your paper and address the importance of cultural competence and cultural humility and how it applies to nursing practice when delivering care to your assigned population

FORMATTING GUIDELINES:

Use a minimum of 3 scholarly sources (excluding your textbook) published within the last 5 years. Each source should have a corresponding in-text citation and reference.

o On occasion, where limited material is available, you may use research published within the past 10 years, however one exception would be using any of the models examined in this class to support assignments. These models are considered seminal or landmark studies and therefore, regardless of date of publication, are permissible. If you locate materials that you feel are valuable, please submit these to your instructor for approval.

You must include an APA formatted title page (p. 32 of your 7th ed. APA manual) and reference page (p. 66-67 of your 7th ed. APA manual).

The content of your paper should not exceed 5 pages (excluding the title and reference page). Content beyond 5 pages will be graded as if it were not submitted.
