SOME TIPS

• A proper annotation should take up at least 3/4 of one page depending on your writing ability (single-spaced). You should not be turning in annotations that are half a page long. That is insufficient.
• Do not tell me something is merely quantitative/qualitative. You must be specific.
• You must explain the IMPORTANCE of the findings. Do not just list findings, explain why they matter.
• You MUST synthesize your sources with your other sources, and your overall project.

• What does that mean?
• Identify the main thesis/argument/contribution this sources is trying to make
• Identify the methodology they are using (quantitative/qualitative/theory/history/etc
• Identify their findings/conclusion
• Does this source align with or counter your expectations?
• Keep or Drop based on the difficulty of mental acrobatics you need to do to make this fit your project.

• Yes, you can change everything at whatever point you want to change it. This is your project.
• Do I need more than 5 secondary sources?

* Yes, a good project will have 5-10 sources. You are free to choose the other 5 and I encourage you to think outside the box.

• Can I turn this in late?
• No. I must stress that you have the deadlines available since Week 1. There are no surprises. If you wait until the last minute and are unable to turn it in, that’s on you.

Upon analyzing the source, it is evident that the main research question is: How did the practice of blockbusting shape the racial transformation of Compton? The article is especially valuable because it offers firsthand accounts from residents, sharing what their lives were like during this transition and how it impacted them and their families.
