Instructions

This assignment will challenge you to empathize with and understand the emotional, physical, and social aspects of aging. Through experiential activities, research, and reflection, you will explore the lived experiences of older adults and develop insights into the aging process.

• Choose TWO activities from the list below. Engage in each activity for a MINIMUM of 30 minutes.
• Find a scholarly article about EACH activity you use
• Create a PowerPoint presentation with audio and video using PANOPTO.
• You MUST upload 2 documents…your PANOPTO presentation (which includes your PPT slides) AND separately, just the PPT slides
• OPTIONS:
• Reduced Vision Simulation: Wear glasses smeared with petroleum jelly or lenses that distort vision to simulate conditions like cataracts or macular degeneration.
• Hearing Loss Simulation: Use earplugs or sound-muffling headphones to experience the challenges of hearing impairment.
• Limited Mobility: Use joint braces, weights on limbs, or crutches to replicate reduced mobility and joint stiffness.
• Loss of Dexterity: Wear thick gloves while trying to perform fine motor tasks, such as buttoning a shirt or picking up small objects.
• Balance Impairment: Wear uneven footwear or stand on a soft surface to understand balance difficulties.
• Digital Barriers: Try to navigate unfamiliar technology or use apps/devices with small fonts to mimic the challenges older adults face with modern tech.
• Dependence Exercise: Have someone restrict your movements or limit your choices for a set period to understand the loss of independence.
• Attempt grocery shopping using public transportation or crossing the street while wearing vision-distorting glasses or mobility aids.
