Instructions Milestone Assessment Milestone Module 2: CLO 4: Students will be able to discuss the skills that are needed to engage in effective counseling. Create a PowerPoint outlining the characteristics and attributes you find most important in a counselor and why. Create from 25 to 40 substantive slides, you will include a title slide and reference slide, and include a speaker notes to support cohesiveness and flow. Use these basic initial interview questions (Please use solid boundaries and only disclose what is comfortable- if nothing is comfortable feel free to create fictitious answers, which you MAY want to use in your final assessment product). 1. Describe some of your strengths. 2. Describe some of your challenges. 3. If you had three wishes: what in your life would you change? 4. Where do you see yourself in five years? 5. Describe a typical day for you. Include: What you think the personal characteristics of an effective counselor are AND do you have them? Explain, define, describe, and give examples as needed. Additionally, please share why you believe people go to counseling/what the counselors role in this is. Use the core values examples and identify/explain ten of your core values and how these values impact your beliefs, expectations, and/or goals. Use this Multicultural and Social Justice Praxis graphic and pose a counselor/client dynamic for each of the four quadrants (privileged/marginalized/counselor/client). Within the dynamic, address the layers in the quadrants, and pose some ways the counselor can ask questions/respond/engage in a culturally competent manner. Use the research and outline competencies and qualities of the person and professional required in this field. For example: 1 Quadrant: Give a concrete example of a Marginalized Counselor and a Privileged Client – explaining Counselor Self-Awareness needs, describing Clients Worldview [given the example you choose], aspects of the Counseling Relationship that may need attention, and give examples of counseling and advocacy interventions-given the assumptions of action-skills-knowledge-attitudes-beliefs. This part is totally creative- and asks you to conceptualize the possible situations with which we may be faced in this work. Use and search out resources to complete.
