Mini Case 6
Prepared by: Raquel Facey, RJ Jackson, Chelsea Jeffers, Zamia Keys, and Jah-Phia Lee
A manager oversees a newly established project management team consisting of three employees: two recently hired Level 1 Project Managers and one Level 3 Project Manager with a long tenure with the company. The two new hires have expertise in different aspects of the expected projects. The team will be assigned projects going forward with the expectations that members will rely on one anothers expertise and recognize who has specific knowledge as needed in the group.
If using AI, include the use of written memos from Exhibit 6-7 in your answer to Question 2.
The manager is considering enrolling the team in a week-long training course designed to enhance project management skills and introduce new models. The course is offered on multiple dates and at different locations, allowing the manager autonomy with deciding where and when the team should attend. Given the teams experience, collaborative nature, and reliance on shared knowledge, the manager must decide whether the employees should attend the training together or separately, as well as how to ensure that the information learned is effectively retained and applied once they return to work.
Question 1: So that the employees get the most out of this training, how should the manager assign the employees to attend this training? (see p.142-148)
Question 2: Based on the models presented in the assigned chapter (see pp. 141-160), which learning and transfer models would best support the team in retaining and applying information from the training described in the mini case? Please use at least two specific models from the chapter, and explain how each could be applied as a solution to improve knowledge retention.
