For this assignment, you will complete and submit Part 1 of your Professional Nursing Issues Paper [Annotated Bibliography, Research Paper Outline, Introduction Paragraph]. The components of the paper are spread throughout the semester, culminating in the final paper due at the end. (Refer to the Course Schedule for specific due dates.)

The American Nurses Association (ANA) has identified important issues facing Nurses today – Workforce, Nursing excellence, Workplace violence, Health Information Technology, Home Health, Scope of Practice for APRN, Nursing Home Staffing, Health Reform, Safe Patient Handling and Mobility, Veterans Health Administration to name a few. The ANA also actively writes and disseminates position statements on current issues and trends in nursing practice. These position statements guide the profession, amplify the views of nursing, and educate consumers and decision makers (ANA, n.d.a). They also provide “an explanation, a justification, or a recommendation for a course of action in particular situations” (ANA, n.d.b).

1. If you have not done so already, choose one of the issues critical to the nursing profession today.

• Read about the issue on the ANA website and find other reliable sources for advocacy and nursing issues.
• You may choose an issue not listed on the website, but this must be an issue related to professional nursing.

1. Complete Part 1 by composing an annotated bibliography, outline, and introduction :

• Annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Identify at least (4) four sources, with permalinks. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
• Structured Draft Research Paper Outline ensure your paper includes the contents and matches the writing considerations outlined in the NUR428 Professional Nursing Issues Paper Assignment Description.
• Include all headings of paper Parts 1, 2,3,4.
• Part 1 needs to meet the rubric requirements for this submission.
• All other parts (2,3,4) you must Include brief description of potential content for each particular heading.
• This should be a brainstorming session of what your paper will discuss
• Introduction and defines the issue,
• Briefly describe its importance and/or impact on professional nursing, and
• Discusses related legislation or the need for legislation regarding the chosen issue.
• Organize your paper with headings in APA format.
