Rhetorical Analysis

For the rhetorical analysis, select one of the three essays from the and analyze how the rhetorical devices ethos, pathos, and logos are presented in the essay and how the argument is constructed. In other words, how does the author use rhetorical devices to develop their argument and persuade their audience of the argument they are making?

Begin your rhetorical analysis with an introduction that presents an overview of the topic of your essay. Your introduction should not include any direct quotes, but should be a full-sized paragraph.

• Include a thesis statement in BOLD. Your thesis statement should argue which rhetorical device is the primary rhetorical device of the essay AND why that is significant in understanding the argument being made by the author.

Next, write at least six body paragraphs analyzing how the author uses each rhetorical device to support their argument.

• Write at least one paragraph for each rhetorical deviceethos, logos, and pathos analyzing how the author uses that rhetorical device to support their argument.
• Write three paragraphs for the device you decide is the primary rhetorical device. How you distribute the remaining body paragraphs between the rhetorical devices is up to you.
• You will need to incorporate the templates from “They Say” into at least three body paragraphs (one template each). Indicate the templates in BOLD.
• Include one direct quote in each body paragraph to support the claims you are making, but do not include more than one quote per paragraph. Most of your essay should focus on analyzing the argument the author is making through rhetorical devices.

Wrap up your rhetorical analysis with a conclusion paragraph. In your conclusion, explain why the argument presented in the essay youre analyzing is important to consider. Your conclusion should not include any direct quotes, but should be a full-sized paragraph.
