W4 Discussion Question 1: The Ear Draw it, Write it, and Learn it!

Purpose: This assignment will help you identify key structures involved in the functional hearing process. This will prepare you to eventually differentiate between typical hearing and dysfunction, especially in your future Audiology courses.

Initial Post (due Friday by 11:59 pm CST): We all learn differently. Visual learning can be a powerful tool in mastering complex systems like the central auditory pathway and the anatomy of the ear. In this activity, you will use drawing and labeling to build a deeper understanding of the central auditory pathway and the parts of the ear. You can draw this by hand or electronically (using Canva/paint/software of your choice).

Drawing Hint: You dont need to be an artist. Draw to your best ability, using tracing as needed. The goal is to visualize and draw a clear enough structure that helps you learn and retain the information.

1. Now, you have conquered the drawing. Let’s write. Write it to learn it! In a minimum of 300 words, respond to the following questions. Integrate detail into your responses, using your textbook and weekly lecture for support (cite appropriately).

• Describe the process of hearing from when a sound is heard through when the brain processes the signal. Include major anatomical structures.
• Describe how the vestibular system works. Include major anatomical structures.
• List and define the central auditory disorders discussed in the chapter.

Your discussion post submission should include:

1. Scanned PDF of two hand drawn images OR electronic submission
2. Your 300 word (minimum) discussion
3. List references, with minimum of one reference, on an reference page
